Artist's Comments

The girl in the picture is a deviant who goes by PseudoNerd. The original stock photo can be found at: [link] -- I chose this picture because she has a great look on her face, and these fantastic, really expressive eyes.

Well, that and because she said she said she "didn't know what could be done with this one" and I saw it instantly.

Finally found a tutorial to explain how to do hair [link] so that was a blast, as were those luxurious eyelashes. Think I nailed the rest of the face pretty well, too, especially the eyes. The eyebrows and the cloth on the other hand took forever and crashed on me more than once--- which set me back many, many hours. Vectoring fuzzy irregular shapes is irritating, I don't wish to try it again soon.

I did do a more literal interpretation of her hat and scarf (which I can upload if there's interest), but I wasn't quite as happy with the results.

This one is 100% vector. Might have gotten better results on the yarn material if I'd delved into photoshop...

On the whole I'm rather pleased with how it turned out. I may be emboldened enough to attempt a self-portrait, next....

I just love the expression of her face!

that's really awesome.
great attention to detail
it looks more like an airbrush to me though.
:icondamiani:
Yeah, I was fairly pleased with it, that was more or less the effect I was going for.
Airbrush, actually, gets you results that are just as smooth but usually fuzzier-- at least, in my admittedly inept hands.
Actually, what this one *really* looks like-- as a friend of mine has pointed out-- is the Adobe PS "Smart Blur" filter. It's not that either, though. I used a series of gradient meshes almost exclusively-- some with a grain or blur applied.

yeh this is almost photorealistic because of the smoothness of the face, its astyle i havnt really seen before here, and its really well executed. the eyes are captivating too, well work the work!

Thank you so much, that's really very kind of you to say.

Man you´ve got to be kidding me! It can´t be only vectors!!!!! and if they are... YOU HAVE TO TEACH ME! ILL DO ANYTHING!!! you have done an AMAZING work... definetly the best vector work I ever saw!
:icondamiani:
Thank you for the compliment!
It is, indeed, pure vector art. Gradient meshes are goooood, and, I find, astonishingly under-used. But I'm still far too much of a beginner to really teach anyone anything. I'll defer, then, to the tutorial I learned from: [link]

Obviously, a lot could be done with this. Awesome vector. Clean work. :)
